Welcome

Spring is slowly returning to us

Spring is slowly returning to us! We hear spring birds singing around us, the sun is shining; the water dripping from the roofs makes us think of summer, hot winds, sand, and sea. However, before we can enjoy our summer holiday, we have to finish our fourth semester!

Students and teachers have been back for a week from a well-deserved Winter break and are now ready to tackle new challenges. The students are very bright and quickly and easily fall back into their normal study routines.

Before the Winter break, we had a Winter Sports Day with wonderful activities at Vilsta and Isstadion. We also celebrated Spirit Week, which is a week celebrating friendship and encouraging a strong sense of community among all students in the school. During this week, students got to decorate their classroom doors and make their own class cheer. There were a lot of wacky hairstyles for the week's "Wacky Hair Day", and we had many good laughs. Students also collected money for the Children's Cancer Foundation.

Last week our popular Talent Show took place. The show included students from grades 5 and 6 and they performed different acts (singing, dancing, magic, etc.) and the entire school enjoyed it.

This week all the students will participate in an annual math competition called World Math Day. You can find more information at: www.worldmathsday.com

The students in grade 5 will next year get a new subject called Modern Language. During this week they will get information regarding the subject from our Modern Language teachers.

The week before Easter break we will welcome our new grade 4 students for a visit, and by then our students in grade 6 will have made their first visit to the Senior School.

After the Easter break, our annual Science Fair will take place on Saturday, May 12th, and parents and relatives are welcome to visit the students at school to see their great scientific accomplishments!

Before the end of term, students in grades 6 will have taken the National Tests in Mathematics, English, and Swedish. These are the first students in grade 6 to take the tests since the new curriculum, LGR 11, was introduced. For more information about LGR 11 see Skolverkets web page: www.skolverket.se

We are excited to for what lies ahead of us here at IES Junior in Eskilstuna.

February is now behind us

February is now behind us and we can look back on a busy period, which included the national tests in Swedish, Verbal Judo for grade seven (in which students learned how to manage stress and conflict), study smart, love week, and parent meetings.

In the coming weeks there will be a continuation of the national tests in science, a work experience programme for grade 8, and development talks with parents and students. We also look forward to visitors from England in March.

October ended on a high note

October ended on a high note for IESK. UN Day was packed with mouth watering treats, games from around the world and an interactive exhibition which had the whole school involved in tasting, participating and most importantly learning about the essential functions of the UN. We hosted the Regional Conference last Friday where our Choir, performers, Ambassadors and Diplomats made an exceptional contribution to the day. IESK, two sister schools and guests from Head Office met to discuss and investigate a range of best practice educational topics. Read more

Fantastic projects we’ve undertaken

It is as a proud and happy Principal that I share the updates, on the fantastic projects we’ve undertaken this September, with you. We have partnered with Mälardalens Högskola and have an agreement signed allowing us to support the university by taking in student teachers. The utbildningsradion has started a joint project with the Internationella Engelska Skolan in Eskilstuna, which means that the school has the opportunity to contribute to; and develop the teachers resource content.  (For example – programmes that are broadcast by utbildningsradion).
