We are back to school!

Internationella Engelska Skolan can rejoice at a fantastic start to the academic year in august!

Our new students at Primary School is indeed a joyful addition. The students are settling in to the school and the ambience is good. Our before and after school care, Primary Club, cooperates with the school and the environment at Primary Club is highly pedagogically influenced and very inviting.

The relocation of grade 6 to our Senior School building has all gone well and they are now settled in.

We can also gladly announce that Junior School through hard work has been awarded “Grön Flagg” on behalf of Internationella Engelska Skolan i Eskilstuna. We are extremely proud! My thanks go out to all of you who have taken part of this project, Ms. Truedsson amongst others.

During these first weeks of the semester, in addition to the regular curriculum, we have even had time for Skoljoggen which benefits SOS Children's Villages and we managed to raise no less than 12.000 SEK. Fantastic!

Grade 9 was visited by Magnus Nordin, author of "Princessan och mördaren" which lead to a nomination for Augustpriset. This book in particular is currently a part of grade 9's reading literature.

Within the subject of social science we have been honored with a visit from Benjamin Grunfelt. Benjamin is an amazing 85 year old man who in an inspiring, vivid and very moving way shared his real life horrific experiences from World War II's concentration camp Auschwitz. Not a soul left the lecture hall unaffected.

To bring awareness to good values we continuously work with "Veckans ord" which aims to highlight the essence of using our language towards one another in a respectful manner.

Good deeds are also In focus. The Good Deeds Project has been initiated with a joint "Good Deed breakfast” for all students.

We are now full of anticipation for the weeks that are to come.

A picture says more than a thousand words

A picture says more than a thousand words

In the beginning of every academic year we're all filled with excitement and full of energy while knowing that there is a whole year until next summer. Now the time has, once again, surprisingly fast come to date.

My deepest gratitude goes out to everyone who has contributed and put in all their effort to make the year fantastic, I could make a list of everyone I would like to thank but the list would simply put be too long.

With these pictures from our End of year ceremonies I want to wish all students, parents and staff a long, warm and wonderful summer filled with joy and relaxation.

A wonderful academic year is coming to an end

While we are completing our wonderful Academic Year we are also planning our expansion and are so glad that many have chose to join our Primary School.

It is with joy and pride that we look back on this year and we are busy planning a fantastic graduation, something we really look forward to. What a fantastic feeling it will be to both see and hear Felicia Olsson, our former student and participant in Melodifestival 2013. A warm welcome to both parents and guests.

I would like to thank our parents, guardians, colleagues, students and all concerned who have contributed to this fantastic year and I wish you all a truly beautiful summer.

Students start again on the 19th of August 2013. Detailed information about this will be sent out in the beginning of August.

Spirit week

Spirit week

During week 7 the students at Junior School experienced Spirit Week, which purpose is to strengthen the sense of fellowship at the school. Some of the things the students did this week was to watch a fantastic Talent Show, show off their crazy hairdos and dress up during Wacky Wednesday as well as decorate their class room doors with positive comments about their class mates.

Spring Term started with a fantastic Open House at Junior School

Spring Term started with a fantastic Open House at Junior School. We were delighted to welcome around 2000 guests. The programme included lessons, exhibitions of teaching materials and student work as well as entertainment by our talented musical group.

The Principal answered questions about our expansions to include year 3. Our Board will determine on the 20th of February in which capacity we will start in August 2013. All parties concerned will receive detailed information about the decisions.

Students and educators are working intensively towards the National Tests. Swedish is first out for both year 6 and year 9. We are hoping for the same great results as last year.

We are in the last term of our two year long Comenius Regio project which has been a joint venture between Internationella Engelska skolan, Djurgårdskolan, Gokstenskolan, St Eskils gymnasium and Mälardalens Högskola as well as several schools in England, amongst others Poole Grammar School and Exeter University. The project ends with collaborators sharing good advice and suggestions with their faculties. At least 24 people from both countries have had the opportunity to visit each other and learn from each other via Master classes held to educate and facilitate discussions with each other in different subject areas.

During week 3 we were visited by three teachers and an administrator from Poole Grammar school in Dorset, England. The guests visited the various participating schools in Eskilstuna and learnt more about how the schools work. They also met with students, subject teachers and leadership. Each visitor presented a Master Class for our staff which included amongst others a session on how to incorporate drama in to teaching, enhancing Photoshop skills and how to include soap bubbles in a Physics lessons. The exchange has been a truly rewarding experience that we are pleased to have participated in.

On the 23 and 24th of January we were visited by Skolinspectionen who undertook a quality audit within the framework of “the child’s right to education”. The inspectors were very pleased and we are looking forward to their report which will be forthcoming shortly.

We are also anticipating our friendship/love week which we celebrate during week 7 and end with Valentine’s Day. Our values will be clearly lifted during the week and students and staff will actively spread the message of warmth and love.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Eskilstuna is in a tight grip of the cold darkness of winter. On days like this it feels good to have great semesters as this past fall to look back upon. We have had a semester full of fantastic achievements!

Both teachers and students are in the midst of finishing up their final work before the grades are set. This is something new for our students of grades 6, 7 and 8. The results are outstanding and you should all be proud.

The celebration of Lucia spread an atmosphere of light and warmth in the church of Fors. Something for all of us to remind ourselves of with joy as we're finishing up the year.

I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year

Aktiviteter som bidrar till elevernas utveckling

Despite the fact that the autumn darkness is here the activities on the school are energetic as always. We can with happiness and pride look back on the first part of the autumn term where the students have taken part of activities that have contributed in their development.

Activities such as Skoljoggen, the playday arranged by PTA for the students at Junior school, education by Räddningstjänsten, theatre visit, author visit, guided tour of the Parliament and the Royal dramatic theatre, Känn dig trygg- Förebygg. The list goes on.

We have also successfully celebrated the UN-day. The students also got a taste of Halloween. We are proud to announce our success in the DN Nutidsorientering, once again we were awarded best school in Södermanland and best student in the district. Fantastic!

Our student council has chosen a president. The students have also chosen committés of various purposes to actively have the chance to affect their school environment.

Grade 9 have had their Career week, a week that offered activities where the students got to explore, challenge and evaluate their interests and get valuable information from different lecturers. The information is linked to the students upcoming gymnasium application.

We are now actively working with the basic values. Our vision is no tolerance when it comes to offensive behaviour between the students. Our educators will be visited by Mälardalen University during week 45 to get educated in these very important subjects. We also engage our students in our work.

In November and December we can look forward to Open House, Talent Show, Julbasar, Students choice and much more.

And finally to mention there is now an approval to build a playground at Junior School. Something we look forward to with excitement.
